Kaleidoscope: Development Strategies


Join us in Tallahassee as we turn our attention to building capacity through advocacy and development – both for our organizations and staff. Tallahassee plays host and we will take full advantage of our location in Florida’s capital.  We will meet in City Hall, located across the street from the Capital

Here’s an overview of our program in November. 

Wednesday, November 12, City Hall Chambers, 300 S Adams St, Tallahassee, FL 32301 *Located .7 miles, 17 mins walking distance from hotel.

Paid parking is available at:

Civic Center, 505 W Pensacola St, Tallahassee, FL 32301, located $8.00 per day and

Kleman Plaza, 200 South Duval Street, Tallahassee, FL 32301 $6.00 per day.

Registration opens at 11:30   Lunch at Noon.       We will be welcomed by Tallahassee’s (new) Mayor Andrew Gillum. The afternoon sessions will be all about understanding how you can work with your legislators. Learn about the process in Tallahassee and how your work can have an impact on legislation. This will include a visit to the Capital followed by a reception and our Networking dinner at a local Tallahassee eatery.

Thursday, November 13, City Hall, Chambers

8:30 AM    Thursday morning we’ll be talking about how you can building capacity with National Service  and which program is best suited to your organization’s needs. How do AmeriCorps, AmeriCorps VISTA, RSVP, SGP and NCCC differ?  What are the requirements? How do we apply? And, more importantly, how will this help us to succeed? Cat Keen, Volunteer Florida’s Director of National Service and Hue Jacobs, from the CNCS State office will give us the 4-1-1 on all things national service!  We’ll turn to personal and staff development with 2 breakout sessions: A representative will present a session on the how-to’s and benefits of attaining your Certified Volunteer Administrator (CVA) credentialing; and Best Practices for building or rejuvenating local Volunteer Connector Networks (VCN) will round out the morning.  Our Service Project:  SOCKTOBERFEST- Sock It To ME!   Affinity Groups and the 2014 FAVRM Statewide Awards will complete the afternoon. We will continue to celebrate with our award winners and explore the Tallahassee scene with another fun evening dinner.

8:30 AM    *We will change venues – walking distance from the hotel – and be welcomed by Volunteer Leon – a program of Leon County Government. In addition to State and National Partners Reports, we’ll get a “tour” of the newly revamped FAVRM website by our Membership Webmaster and longtime friend, Tom Linley.  We will wrap up with the election of the 2015 Board of Directors and a brief meeting and announcement of Forums for 2015 before heading home.

Registration fees include: Lunch on Wednesday and Thursday.
